Stephanie Milam became the fastest British woman ever in Drag Racing last Sunday, recording a top-end mph of 238.09 in qualifying for Round One of the 2005 FIA Drag Racing championships, held at Santa Pod Raceway over the weekend.
Milam, who is manageress of a Travel Agents, from Crowborough in Sussex, England, piloted her Dodge Avenger bodied Top Methanol Funny Car to a speed that sees her take the record from Roz Prior, who set it at 229 mph back in 1983 while Driving the "Maiden Warrior" fuel dragster.
"It's great to have one end of the record" said Milam, "All I need now is
to beat her 6.205 to take the ET part of it as well". Crew Chief and
husband Dave Milam observed that the mph indicated that the car was easily capable and there was plenty of power to do it. The Milams have campaigned a series of 'She-Devil' cars since 1980, moving up to Top Methanol in 2000.
They took the brave decision to have a year out in 2004 to rebuild the car and engine to be as good as any in Europe - PSI blower, the whole 9 yards. That seems to be paying off, as they have set a whole series of personal bests so far this year.
"We would like to be the first British Top Methanol Funny Car into the
fives" commented Dave "but Trevor Capewell is giving us a very good run for our money !"
See you at the next round
